While I was still writing Why CLE?, Maggie Sullivan approached me about a book she wrote called “Boss Ladies of CLE.” I already had the idea for Authentically CLE in the works and this seemed like a perfect place to delve into this book and the Boss Ladies that it features.

“Boss Ladies of CLE” profiles 20 diverse, amazing, accomplished Cleveland women, who tell their own stories in their own words. These woman are of different ages, races, sexual orientations, abilities, and avocations. Each has blazed her own trail, not only for herself, but for those around her and after her.
Included in the book are women such as :
- Justice Melody J. Stewart, Ohio Supreme Court
- Jackie Wachter, co-founder and creative director of FOUNT
- Anjua Maximo, co-owner of GrooveRyde
- Jill Vedaa, chef and co-owner of Salt+
- Valerie Mayen, owner and founder of Yellowcake
And many more…
The profiles are written by the Boss Ladies themselves, telling their own stories of how they got to where they are and their vision for the future of Cleveland. The book also features beautiful portraits of each Boss Lady.
And while I don’t want to spoil the book for you, you know I love inspirational quotes, so here are a few of my favorites from “Boss Ladies of CLE:”
“Knowing what you want to do is a blessing, and you should follow your intuition on it. Use your time wisely – take your weekends or nights off and work on your passions.” – Ahlam Abbas
“I don’t expect every person to take this on as their cause. I just want every person to care about something outside of themselves.” – Erin Huber Rosen
“This is our home. You don’t like it? Change it.” – Sam Flowers & Brittany Benton
“You’re going to make mistakes, you’re going to be misunderstood, you’re going to say the wrong thing sometimes. But that’s the only way you can learn.” – Malaz Elegmiabby
Boss Ladies of CLE is now available for purchase online. You can also follow along with Boss Ladies of CLE on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
I was thoroughly inspired, challenged, and humbled by each Boss Lady’s story and I’m sure you will be too. We are lucky to have such authentic women working hard every day to make Cleveland a better place and we’re lucky to have Maggie Sullivan to amplify their voices.
***Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of “Boss Ladies of CLE.” As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***
