Fall has always been my favorite season. I love the cooler mornings and evenings, watching the leaves change, and all the fun things to do around town. Even this year, there is still plenty of fall fun to had... The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has modified it's annual Halloween event to Trick or Treat Fest, a daytime event happening weekends from October 9-31. There will be live performances, characters to visit, Trick or Treat Way, carousel rides, and the Dinosaurs Around the World exhibit included with your ticket. Cedar Point has also adapted it's annual Halloween event to … [Read more...] about An Authentic Cleveland Fall
Cleveland Places
Great Lakes Science Center
In the ongoing series of re-exploring Cleveland places, we ended up at one of Jeffrey's favorite spots this weekend: the Great Lakes Science Center. Jeffrey attended one of their Camp Curiosity camps this summer and I was impressed with their ability to keep the kids socially distanced and safe (including requiring masks well before the mandate.) We got to check out the new Body Worlds RX exhibit (open through January 3, 2021.) It's an inside look at the human body that was a bit over Jeffrey's head, but still fascinating. It was great to see the Science Center still doing some … [Read more...] about Great Lakes Science Center
Hocking Hills
Awhile back, one of my blogger buddies Kate described herself as "aggressively indoorsy" and I tell you, I felt seen. I am not a nature-y person, but in this strange time we're living in, nature has become not only a place where you can see people somewhat safely, but also one of the few vacation options we have. Jeff and I were looking for a place to get away just the two of us and we landed on Hocking Hills. We rented a cabin from Cedar Grove Lodging and Events. The location was perfect: on the main road through Hocking Hills and less than 5 minutes from Old Man's Cave. The cabin … [Read more...] about Hocking Hills
Cleveland Botanical Garden
In my ongoing series of getting back to authentically Cleveland places in this new reality we're living in, Jeffrey and I went to the Cleveland Botanical Garden on Saturday morning. The outdoor gardens are lush and beautiful and the perfect spot for a Saturday morning stroll with friends. While the treehouses are closed, almost everything else outside is open for exploration. The Hershey Children's Garden has a fun gnome scavenger hunt to keep your kiddos on the lookout as they meander through the garden. 19 gnomes are hidden throughout the Hershey Children's Garden, although our … [Read more...] about Cleveland Botanical Garden
Cleveland Museum of Natural History
As we continue to find safe and fun places to go this summer, a rainy weekend found me searching for an indoor activity (which I have largely eschewed so far.) Jeffrey and I went to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which was a great choice. From the classic exhibits to the special Ultimate Dinosaurs exhibit, open through October 4, there's always something interesting to see. We dodged the raindrops to visit the animals outside too. One of Jeffrey's favorite things to do at the museum is the earthquake simulator. While I tried to prepare him that it might not be open, we were … [Read more...] about Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Cedar Point
Yesterday, Jeffrey and I headed up to Cedar Point for the day. Cedar Point is one of Jeffrey's favorite places to go in the summer. And since he's over 48 inches tall, he can go on the "big" rollercoasters. We started out with the Cedar Creek Mine Ride, which Jeffrey declared to be "crazy" and I thought was a nice way to ease in to the day. We also hit the Gemini (a classic favorite of mine) and Iron Dragon. I also loved seeing that Jeffrey still wanted to go on some of the rides in Camp Snoopy too! There are days when it seems like he's growing up so fast, but he still loves the kid … [Read more...] about Cedar Point
