Cafilia

Since heading back to the office, I've seen my caffeine intake markedly jump. So when Aleksandra reached out about Cafilia, a new coffee subscription service, I jumped right on finding out more. Cafilia not only supports local coffee shops, but helps to reduce waste. Here's how it works. You sign up for a monthly subscription. You pick your number and type of drinks (10, 15, or 20 cups and drip coffee or latte drinks). You'll receive a reusable mug with your personalized number on the bottom. When you go to a participating local coffee shop, they plug in your number, it deducts from … [Read more...] about Cafilia

John Selick

I'm fortunate to have made a lot of friends in the Cleveland chef community over the years and I have always found them to be such a generous, talented group. As the pandemic hit and stretched on, I've seen them pivot and adapt and still continue to give back too. One shining example of that is Chef John Selick. Tell me a bit about your culinary background (where you’ve worked, studied, etc.) Bachelors Degree from New England Culinary Institute Certified Executive Chef Chapter President of the American Culinary Federation Cleveland Chapter Seven years with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel … [Read more...] about John Selick

Challah at Meg

There's nothing better than shining a light on a new local business that is making yummy creations. I not only love her delicious challah, but I love her grassroots story and how she found help and inspiration from others on social media. What gave you the idea to start Challah at Meg? Challah at Meg came about after a month of making challah. I am a self-taught challah baker!  I had been taking orders and I started following other challah bakers around the world on Instagram and felt that I wanted to make a name for myself and I  started toying with the idea of a business. … [Read more...] about Challah at Meg

Girls With Sole

So, another one of my Instagram girl crushes is Liz Ferro, the founder of Girls With Sole, who has always struck me as such a powerful, put-together, caring person. I had the chance to "chat" with Liz and find out more about Girls With Sole. Tell me about the mission of Girls With Sole and why it's so important. Girls With Sole is a nonprofit organization based in Cleveland, Ohio whose mission is to use free fitness and wellness programs to empower the minds, bodies and souls of girls who are at-risk or have experienced abuse of any kind.  We envision a world where every girl thinks of … [Read more...] about Girls With Sole

Talking to Kids About Race

Parenting has always been an adventure, but 2020 has really handed parents a lot of tricky issues to navigate with their children. One of those issues is how to talk to your children about race and racial inequality. We are fortunate to have so many excellent educational institutions in Cleveland and, in thinking about how to best talk to Jeffrey about racial issues, I decided to tap in to one of the resources I knew personally. One of Jeffrey's former preschool teachers, Carolyn English, is the Early Childhood Diversity Liaison at Hathaway-Brown School and (from personal experience) a … [Read more...] about Talking to Kids About Race

Hand-Lettered Old Sh*t

So, have you ever developed an Instagram crush on a brand? Because that's totally how I found Hand-Lettered Old Shit. The products are cool, quirky, and a perfect blend of funny and pretty. They were the things you'd display in your house that from a distance just looked nice and then you got a little closer and there was a subversive kick to it. Then I actually got to connect in real life with Kate, the creative mind behind the brand, at the Winter Market. And my crush was confirmed. So, I thought maybe you'd like to learn a bit more about the story behind the brand... What gave you the … [Read more...] about Hand-Lettered Old Sh*t

Today on the blog (yes, I blogged!) #linkinprofile Today on the blog (yes, I blogged!) #linkinprofile...

This time, this year, has simplified life for all of us. It's stripped it down. Given us the chance to decide what matters. What stays. I'm never going to be a total homebody. I'm never going to be an introvert. But I feel definitively, and have felt for awhile, that the blogger/influencer stage is done.

So, thank you, thank you, thank you for nearly a decade of more fun, more connection, more everything than I could have imagined. You guys made this worthwhile and made it last. And now it's not you, it's me.

Two months ago, I had never heard of neuroendocrin Two months ago, I had never heard of neuroendocrine cancer. Now I’m more familiar with it than I would ever want to be.

Known as the zebra of the cancer world because of it’s rarity and the unique way it manifests in each patient, it is often misdiagnosed initially.

As happened with my mother, 46% of those diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer are at Stage IV and/or had metastases at the time of diagnosis.

@netcancerday seeks to raise awareness of symptoms both among patients and health care professionals to lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment options.
